Potential Still Bromo Erupts

PROBOLINGGO, KOMPAS.com - Until the ninth day after the determination of the status of Caution, Mount Bromo still experiencing volcanic earthquakes in a row. Therefore, the potential for a large eruption is still there.

"Therefore, in conditions of decline in this activity, there are two possibilities that could happen, that status will go down or vice versa Bromo will occur after the eruption of energy collection," said Chairman of the Emergency Response Team Suantika Gede Gunung Bromo, on Wednesday (12/01/2010 ), on Observation Post Mount Bromo, Ngadisari Village, District Sukapura, Probolinggo.

On Wednesday between 00.00 am until 12.00 am, Mount Bromo has 19 times the amplitude of volcanic earthquake with 10-38 millimeters for 10 seconds to 30 seconds. Meanwhile, earthquake tremors are still ongoing with an amplitude of 2-5 millimeters.

Bromo smoke yesterday dense gray now turned into a reddish brown because it contains sulfur.

"The height of burst of volcanic material began to fall from last Tuesday, a maximum of 400 meters to a maximum of 200 meters," said Gede Suantika who is also Head of the Earthquake Observation Movement and the Land Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation.
